It’s Official: Microsoft Acquires GitHub For $7.5 Billion

Of late, the company has become one of the biggest contributors to GitHub and owning the service could help them make important connections with developers. On Sunday, citing internal sources, Bloomberg reported that the deal was already done, and set to be announced on Monday.
It's worth noting how will the developer community react to this acquisition.
As of March 2018, GitHub claimed there were 28 million developers in its community, and 85 million code repositories, and with Microsoft's renewed focus on software and services, many people expected this move.
Microsoft is a developer-first company, and by joining forces with GitHub we strengthen our commitment to developer freedom, openness and innovation.
That said, GitHub is more significant than Microsoft, and its unlikely its goal will be modified once the Redmond-based giant takes over day-to-day operations. The site stores valuable code for thousands of developers and companies, and also can track major trends in the software industry.
