Boston Dynamics Plans to Start Selling Their Robot Dog 'SpotMini' Year

The creators of the SpotMini - the four-legged (and zero-headed) robot that is gaining global fame for its increasingly sophisticated skills - are ready to make them commercially available. The SpotMini robots are expected to be used for security patrols or in construction companies to keep tabs on what's happening at building sites.

"During the autonomous run, SpotMini uses data from the cameras to localize itself in the map and to detect and avoid obstacles", the company said.

At a TechCrunch robotics event on Friday, Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert announced its robotic dog SpotMini is now in "pre-production".

It's unclear who will be able to buy them, and the cost has not yet been revealed. "We've built 10 units [of] a design that's close to [what] a manufacture will design".

3 victims killed in Montgomery County shooting identified
After the shooting, Snyder went back to his house where he barricaded himself inside during an hours-long standoff with police. Officials have blocked some lanes of New Hampshire Ave. and Georgia Avenue, and are urging drivers to stay away.

The dog-like SpotMini robot climbs up and down stairs.

In the first SpotMini video from 2016, we're shown the original robot performing various chores around the house, including loading up the dishwasher and throwing away trash. That's the same robot that made headlines (and made stomachs turn) when it demonstrated its ability to open doors earlier this year. Previous year it was updated and now she can walk independently, using Autonomous navigation.

Also in the beginning of the year there was a photo of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, strolling with one of the robotic dog by Boston Dynamics. Emulating human running motions over complicated and uneven terrain is much harder than it looks, and a significant step forward from walking around factory floors. While the robot has to slow down and gingerly approach the obstacle, it successfully completes the jump.

Atlas can also open doors, lift objects like boxes and do a backflip. The price was not disclosed.
