Magnitude-4.5 earthquake rattles L.A. area

A 4.5 magnitude quake struck about 8 miles north of Cabazon near Palm Springs at 4:49 a.m. Tuesday, the USGS reported. Two minutes later, a magnitude 3.2 quake was recorded in the same area.

While information is still coming in, the government agency said there is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

The biggest temblor struck with a 4.5 magnitude at 4:49 a.m.at a depth of eight miles, its epicenter 6 miles south-southeast of Mt. San Gorgonio and 8 miles north of Cabazon, according to the USGS.

No reports of injuries or damage was reported immediately after the earthquakes. Preliminary reports from firefighters suggested there was no damage.

No damage or injuries were reported, but the shaking was felt in Los Angeles, almost 100 miles west of the epicenter.
