A Still from Solo A Star Wars Story
"A Star WarsStory" came in well below expectations with an US$83.3 million opening weekend at the North American box office. It's a film that delights in winking and nodding at dialogue from the past, while filling in backstory gaps with all of the subtlety of a blaster shot to the face. Neither of which have been confirmed yet but seem more likely now that a Boba Fett movie has been announced.
There are, of course, spoilers ahead.
Boba Fett made his movie debut in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, and also played a part in Return of the Jedi as well as prequel Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. But in reality, this is a weak opening for a Star Wars movie, as the lowest of the four post-Disney releases and even falling short of Revenge of the Sith, which opened in 2005 with $108.4 million. After debuting with $125 million last weekend, the R-rated Ryan Reynolds sequel dropped 66 percent to second place with $42.7 million and an estimated $53.5 million four-day haul.
"It's the compressed timeframe between the two "Star Wars" films and the highly competitive nature of this marketplace".
There's something about the last minute reveal at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story that feels at once inevitable and surprising.

More patients in the Lucemyra group completed the treatment period of the studies vs patients in the placebo group. For opioids, withdrawal symptoms can include runny noses, sleep problems, sweating, nausea, vomiting and more.
The news is far worse internationally, with the film falling well short of estimates to bring in just $65 million after "Solo" was predicted to earn $148 million in global markets. In a wonderful anecdote, Paul Bettany talked about the ridiculous secrecy on the sets of both Solo and Infinity War!
Yes, "Star Wars" fatigue is a thing.
But in that instance, it went from releasing an origin story followed by an established Avengers movie. Audiences weren't exhausted; they were pumped up for it.
After a brilliant sequence in which she liberates many other droids on Kessel while Han, Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke) and Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) steal coaxium fuel, she gets shot during the ensuing firefight. It'd make sense for Lucasfilm to bring him back, too, given the recent surge in popularity the character's seen thanks to Donald Glover's portrayal of him in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
With all these factors combined, clearly for most, going to the beach or a barbecue was the better option this holiday weekend.
