Ivanka Trump Defends Serena Williams After Being Snubbed by French Open

Look who's back Three-time winner Serena Williams is playing her first Grand Slam tournament at the French Open for over a year

Other top tennis players have supported Serena Williams by saying that the former No. 1 player, who was unseeded at the French Open and at two previous tournaments this year after her maternity leave, should have received greater consideration from tennis officials.

Williams, a three-time French Open champion, is expected to play in her first major since giving birth to her daughter in September.

"It's always special when I come back to Paris where I have had so many wonderful moments in my career", said Nadal at the draw ceremony ahead of the French Open which starts on Sunday, May 27. At least, though, she won't have an early date with Halep, a possibility warned of earlier in the week by Chris Evert, the 18-time Grand Slam singles victor who also said that Williams deserved better.

The three-times French Open champion was not granted a seed by tournament organisers, triggering criticism from women's groups and tennis pundits. "So, yeah, I definitely think that would be a nice change".

Ivanka Trump is speaking in defense of Serena Williams.

Williams, quite simply, is being penalized for having a baby.

Konta, 27, has never won a match in the Roland Garros main draw and the 22nd seed hopes to end that unwanted record against world number 93 Putintseva. Williams, then ranked 81st, won that tournament, thrashing the top-seeded Sharapova, 6-1, 6-2, in the final. She added, "Tennis is such a selfish sport, but I think when there's a child in your life you lose a little bit of that, because there's something that's so much more important".

She said people needed to speak more openly about the fact that the longer an athlete puts off starting a family, the higher the chances they would deal with fertility issues.
