Congress to fast on April 9 for communal harmony; BJP to fast on 12 to protest Budget session disruption

Congress 'throttling' democracy, 'abusing' people's mandate, says PM Modi

Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Opposition parties, likening them to "snakes", "mongoose", "dogs" and "cats".

Meanwhile, speaking at a massive BJP rally at Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex, Shah emphasised the BJP's commitment to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and maintained that the party will never let reservations be scrapped.

"I wanted to say that parties which have opposite political ideologies are coming together to defeat Narendra Modi".

"It is due to this that an atmosphere of violent opposition against the BJP is being created", he said and asked party workers not to fall in the opposition's trap of divisive agenda. As half of the second leg of the Parliamentary Budget session came to an end today, which was completely washed out in disruptions, BJP MPs protested in Parliament premises against the Congress.

On whether there would be alliance between the BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, Shah said, "We wish that the Shiv Sena is part of the NDA in the 2019 polls".

District Vice President of Srinagar Ashok Bhat said BJP was one of the few parties in India to have a popular-based governing structure, where workers and leaders at the local level have a great say in much of the decision-making.

"We don't want to fight the next elections on slogans or empty poll promises but on the basis of the government's achievements".

"Congress is in a state of shock and it is out of this that words like ideology are coming from them", Sitharaman said, added that it was odd and ironical that a party which gave birth to dictatorship in the country is talking of "values and ideology".
