Country's 'chowkidar' is silent on corruption cases: Rahul

Rahul Gandhi Rally

He further said that the Congress party couldn't digest that the people of the country saw through their "anti-development and highly divisive politics".

On Sunday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor praised Rahul Gandhi's Jan Akrosh Rally by pulling out a new word from his vast reservoir of arcane words hitherto unknown to other English-language speakers.

He accused the Prime Minister of being silent over Union Minister Piyush Goyal's alleged sale of shares held in a privately-held company at almost 1,000 times the face value.

Rahul Gandhi said while the country believed in a religion that was based on truth in everything, one did "not find truth" in Modis speeches.

A Mahila Congress leader from Allahabad said, "The situation in the country, especially in Uttar Pradesh, is very bad". Our farmers are demanding justice from the government.

Pointing out "lies" in the speeches by Prime Minister, Rahul said: "When PM Modi speaks, people have to search hard for shreds of truth within his speeches". Every year 20 million people were promised a job.

He claimed that Congress workers could withstand all the pressures from money and muscle power and the use of various Central agencies in Gujarat.

The former prime minister reiterated that the promises made by the present government were not delivered yet.

Citing Modi's visit to China for an informal summit, he said: "China's army is entrenched in Doklam, they are making helipads, extending airways and India's Prime Minister held discussions without an agenda".

Gandhi added that the BJP-RSS combine only spread hatred and fear among the people, while it is the Congress which spreads love and peace.

Rahul also slammed the Modi Government over Kathua and Unnao rape cases and said, "For the first time, an Indian PM has been asked to protect woman of the country on foreign soil".

Comparing the BJP with the Congress, Rahul said while there was no scope for dissent in the BJP, the Congress gave enough scope for liberal debate and differences.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the democracy of the country is in danger as the BJP-led government is undermining Constitutional institutions.

The Congress leader said that the Modi government was willing to waive Rs 2.5 lakh crore loans of a few industrialists but was not ready to do the same for farmers, who were being forced to commit suicide. Democracy is a gift of the India's constitution and we should all strive to strengthen it. "The media can not play its role and it is being stopped from doing so", she said.
