Alfie's parents repeatedly appealed against rulings given in favour of the doctors, and took the case to the Supreme Court.
Mr Evans, 21 and Ms James, 20, had fought to take their son to a foreign hospital for treatment for a degenerative medical condition, but lost a final court appeal on Wednesday.
Mr Evans said their lives had been "turned upside down" by the "intense focus" his case had received. Sadly, British courts barred the family from taking their son out of the Alder Hey Hospital, despite the fact that Italian government granted Alfie Italian citizenship and is providing an air ambulance outside the hospital to transport him.
Alfie's father also thanked the hospital "at every level for their dignity and professionalism", contrary to his insistence the day before that the doctors "hate us" and treat his family "like criminals" and three of Alfie's doctors should be prosecuted for allegedly conspiring to murder his son.
In Alfie's interests we will work with his treating team on a plan that provides our boy with the dignity and comfort he needs.
'From this point onwards there will be no more statements issued, or interviews given. The parents' campaign was backed by the pope and Christian groups, which helped draw global attention to the case.

Tom Evans will take his ongoing legal battle to the Court of Appeal in London this afternoon, after losing his appeal against a High Court decision preventing Alfie from being taken overseas for treatment. We are heart broken.
Alfie suffered from a neurodegenerative disease that ravaged his brain and left him hospitalized in a neonatal intensive care unit in Liverpool since December 2016.
On Facebook he wrote: "My gladiator lay down his shield and gained his wings. absolutely heartbroken".
The 23-month-old toddler has an undiagnosed neurological condition and has been in a coma at the children's hospital for over a year.
He had been suffering with seizures and remained as a patient at the hospital ever since.
