Alexander has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation has been launched

Two accidental shootings occurred at US schools on Tuesday - one by a California teacher conducting a public safety awareness lesson and the other by a school resource officer - less than a week after the governor of Florida signed legislation allowing some teachers in his state to be armed in the classroom. Alexander did not have that authorization. A male student was "moderately" injured when debris from the ceiling fell on top of him.

Alexander was the Sandy City Reserve Officer of the year in 2013.

Seaside police said in a statement that no one suffered serious injuries. Fermin Gonzales told reporters that he only learned about his son's injury when the teen came home from school, which is something he finds upsetting today. The family filed a police report.

Police told The Associated Press that Alexander had pointed his gun at the ceiling to make sure it was not loaded when the weapon discharged.

"I have concerns about why he was displaying a loaded firearm in a classroom", Ferrante told KSBW separately.

Alexander has been put on administrative leave during the investigation, though it wasn't clear whether it was paid or unpaid leave, McFadden said. In 2016, a sheriff's deputy fired his gun in a MI high school while testing a robotics machine, hitting a teacher in the neck, and a part-time correctional officer at an elementary school for a job interview at a Florida elementary school shot himself in the knee. During the demonstration, the gun accidentally went off shooting at the ceiling. The teacher was pointing his gun at the ceiling when he accidentally fired it in front of his students. The school will have counselors available to students Wednesday.

Sri Lanka declares 10-day Emergency
Muslims in Sri Lanka are generally known as Moors are the minority ethnic group comprising 9.3% of the country's total population. Last week, at least 5 people were wounded and several shops and a mosque damaged when groups clashed in Ampara.

"Due to the nature of this personnel incident, we are unable to share any other details", the letter said.

The teacher has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation takes place, according to the school. We'll keep you posted if anything else happens. The name of the school is reported to be Seaside High School. Really hope he can go back to teaching after this (even if this was a completely dumb move). Another Facebook user wrote on the KSBW Facebook page, "Oh great".

But fairly or not, Alexander will probably become a figure of mockery and scorn to those who are fighting Trump's arm-the-teachers proposal.

The incident has changed Gonzales' views on arming teachers. And this guy was a trained reserve police officer.

She said authorities are investigating why Alexander had a gun in the classroom and if school officials were aware of his intention to bring one to class.
