UK roads are 10th most congested in the world – with 31-hour a year delays costing Brits over £1000 each
Drivers spend an average of 102 peak hours in congestion in L.A., besting Moscow (91), New York City (91), Sao Paulo, Brazil (86) and San Francisco (79) among the worldwide top five.
On average in the United Kingdom, drivers spend an average of 31 hours a year in traffic which in 2017 led to a loss of more than £37.7 billion in related costs*.
Out of the 1,360 cities analysed, London came in seventh, behind Bogota who had 75 peak hours of congestion. And it's estimated that Jakartans spend an average of 22 days a year in traffic, according to a 2017 study conducted by Boston Consulting Group. It calculated direct costs as the value of fuel and time wasted, while indirect costs relate to freighting and business fees from company vehicles idling in traffic that are passed on through higher prices.
Beyond frayed nerves, traffic congestion cost USA motorists almost $305 billion in 2017, an average of $1,445 per driver, the study found.
