Trump's 'fake news awards' condemned by Republicans, fodder for comedians

He has threatened to continue his attempt to discredit the free press by bestowing "fake news awards" upon reporters and news outlets whose coverage he disagrees with.

"While administration officials often condemn violence against reporters overseas, Trump continues his unrelenting attacks on the integrity of American journalists and news outlets", Mr McCain wrote in an editorial for the Washington Post. @POTUS must understand his harmful rhetoric only empowers repressive regimes to jail reporters & silence the truth.

In late December Trump's campaign committee asked supporters to award the "2017 KING of Fake News" trophy.

Trumped announced the award show in early January, scheduling the "Most Dishonest & Corrupt Media Awards of the Year" for Jan. 3.

"The phrase "fake news" - granted legitimacy by an American president - is being used by autocrats to silence reporters, undermine political opponents, stave off media scrutiny and mislead citizens", the senator wrote.

Walton was in good spirits, shooting around after the walk-through with Ball, Kyle Kuzma and assistant coach Brian Shaw. LaVar Ball has taken his "overbearing sports dad" shtick to another level. "People don't why they're in the game".

"For decades, dissidents and human rights advocates have relied on independent investigations into government corruption to further their fight for freedom", McCain wrote.

"Covered in real fake gold and made in "Gina" the mock Trump announced while holding the award.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah told Fox News on Wednesday morning that the White House is very excited about the Fake News Awards, but he said there would be an announcement a little later.

He said the Arizona senatorial delegation's criticisms of Trump should be heeded, noting that both Republicans John McCain and Jeff Flake have criticized Trump for his critique of the press.

"More than two-fifths of evening news coverage of the President (43%) focused on controversies, not policies, with the Russian Federation investigation alone accounting for one-fifth of all Trump coverage (1,234 minutes)", read one of the study's findings. The free press is the despot's enemy, which makes the free press the guardian of democracy.
