Test fire of SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket moves to Saturday

Citing government and industry officials who were briefed on the mission, the Wall Street Journal that the satellite did not separate as intended after the firing of the rocket's second stage.

The launch window January 30 opens at 4:23 p.m. EST (2123 GMT) and extends for 134 minutes.

Satellite GovSat 1 will be fueled by technicians with nitrogen tetroxide and hydrazine, contriving propellant in upcoming days.

What makes things tricky is the fact that the satellite failed to achieve orbit, reportedly burning up in the earth's atmosphere. The name refers to a Malibu beach in Southern California.

That means something made it into orbit and went around at least once, though it doesn't necessarily mean the satellite is still there.

A network of amateur satellite trackers are on the lookout for Zuma in case it is still in orbit, but they are working off an estimate of its expected location, and it could take weeks to find the spacecraft, assuming it is still in space and is orbiting where predicted. Rep. Mike Rogers, who leads the House Armed Services Strategic Forces subcommittee, added rather bluntly that "space is a risky business", but that his committee will continue to provide oversight for future missions tasked with protecting national security.

The new rocket gives the Hawthorne space company heavy-lift capability, meaning SpaceX could hoist massive satellites for commercial customers or lucrative national security missions. "We can not comment on classified missions". The last Corporation in the launch previously collaborated with the Alliance ULA (United Launch Alliance), a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin, not SpaceX.

The Zuma payload was built for the government by Northrop Grumman.

On Tuesday, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell released an even stronger statement and pushed back against reports that a second-stage malfunction may have been to blame, saying that "after review of all data to date, Falcon 9 did everything correctly on Sunday night".

In 2015, SpaceX was certified by the U.S. Air Force to launch national security satellites. The most likely culprit for the failed launch of the payload can be an American Corporation Northrop Grumman.

Caceres predicted SpaceX will probably proceed "with business as usual and try to keep with their very aggressive launch schedule". However, the agency confirmed that the Falcon 9 performed as it was supposed to after going through the data review of the mission. Its classified mission was intentionally inscrutable - whether to detect missile launches, spy on adversaries, or to track ship at sea with a space radar. The mechanism, according to some of these officials, was supplied by Northrop Grumman instead of SpaceX.

But with the mission's classified nature, confirmation of Zuma's fate, and what may have gone wrong, remained elusive.

Despite the launch being shrouded in secrecy, SpaceX seemed to have successfully carried a mysterious government satellite from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida on Sunday.

In the meantime, Falcon Heavy, like its smaller cousin the Falcon 9, will advance SpaceX's goal of cutting launch costs by reusing rockets.
