Will not allow screening of 'Padmaavat', says Karni Sena
Most of the theatres in Gujarat have voluntarily chose to not screen controversial Bollywood film "Padmaavat", while the state government is trying its best to maintain law and order, said Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. They have taken the decision voluntarily.
Karni Sena Chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi has refused to back down and says that the protest will now happen in states where the film is not banned yet. Other states like Haryana and Gujarat have also filed the petition.
"Following imposition of Section 144, there is prohibition on presence of people carrying firearms and other articles capable of causing injury, raising slogans and exhibiting placards within 200 meters radius of the cinema halls and multiplexes from January 23 to January 28", Singh said. This happened shortly after a candle march was carried out by Karni Sena activists against the release of the film. "The government is trying its best to maintain law and order in the state", Patel told reporters in Gandhinagar.
The first to be targeted was Gulmohar, which saw some stone pelting before the mobs moved to Acropolis Mall where they set fire to over 15 vehicles parked outside. "Therefore, do not compel us to take to the path of violence", he said. The Supreme Court has now chose to hear another plea banning some scenes on Monday.
For now, over 35 supporters of Karni Sena, protesting in opposition to Padmaavat have been in custody in Mumbai, claims a Mumbai Police official, as per reports of PTI.
The film will release in the regular and 3D format in Hindu, Telugu and Tamil languages on January 25. A faction of Rajput community did watch the movie, and after saying that "Jhuka Bhansali, Jeeta Rajput" have no problem or objetion with the movie.
The Rajput body also announced that a nine-member committee would watch the film on Mr. Bhansali's invitation on the condition that the film-makers make changes if anything "objectionable" was found in it.
