The Los Angeles Clippers traded Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons on Monday in a blockbuster deal that involved six players and two draft picks. In return, they sent Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, a future protected first-round draft choice (picks 1-4 protected), and a future second-round draft choice to Los Angeles. He'd spent his entire career with the team after being the top pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. The Clippers are also sending Brice Johnson and Willie Reed to Detroit alongside Griffin, sources say.
Griffin, who is averaging 22.6 PPG on 44.1 FG and 7.9 RPG this season, re-signed with the Clippers on a five-year, $171 MM deal last summer despite Chris Paul's move to the Houston Rockets. The Clippers are 25-24 on the season and sit ninth in the Western Conference.
Griffin had not arrived in Detroit as of Tuesday afternoon, and it's unlikely he'll play in the matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The guy's a five-time All-Star, he's been an All-NBA guy. And quite frankly, the Los Angeles Clippers could have gotten much more for their star power forward.
The deal didn't include a no-trade clause.

The same month, a German teenage girl suspected of joining IS was arrested in Mosul, according to Germany's justice department. In the province surrounding Mosul alone, more than 4,000 militants were arrested, police chief General Wathiq al-Hamdani said.
For the Clippers, moving Griffin continues a makeover of a franchise that has never made it past the second round of the playoffs. That's just an insane contract for a 28-year-old with a lengthy injury history who has likely peaked. But the Pistons also may still have the problem of limited flexibility to build a championship team around a new core of Griffin, Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson.
Harris is averaging 18.1 points per game and 5.1 rebounds.
The first pick of the 2009 draft has averaged 21.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in an National Basketball Association career riddled with injuries.
The Pistons, now 22-26 overall and fourth in the Central Division, are still struggling to find a rhythm. Even though this deal does not give Dallas a first round pick for Matthews like Marc Stein reported Dallas would seek, taking a swing at Stanley Johnson could be worth it.
