Warning This link will crash the Messages app on your iPhone
A malicious text message sent to iPhones and Macs can crash them without any action on the part of users. Being shared in the form of a link this freezes the receiver's phone and causes a frenzy in your messages app, distressing your iPhone, iPad and Mac. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the upcoming software update released by Apple that patches the bug. Still the lesson in all of this remains the same: Do not click on links sent in iMessages from unknown users, as they could have a malicious link attached to them.
The bug is triggered by sending a string of code to an iPhone in an iMessage, Apple's internet-based text messaging system.
Last year, Apple launched a first-of-its-kind App Accelerator in Bengaluru and it has already trained thousands of iOS developers. Both Spectre and Meltdown are exploits that can take advantage of the way that many high-performance processors operate in order to extract sensitive data from a user's computing device. Software developer Abraham Masri, the brain behind the bug, gave it the name "chaiOS". We're hopeful that apart from iOS 11.2.5, Apple will implement the same fixes in macOS as well with the release of High Sierra 10.3.3 some time later this month. The only reason he chose to go public is that Apple ignored his bug reports. That said, someone else may be able to replicate the problem in the future and upload it themselves to reinstate the attack.
