Board chair Lynn Weidner who sent emails that were the source of controversy has also resigned.
Miss America Organization President Josh Randle along with CEO Sam Haskell and Chairwoman Lynn Weidner resigned on Saturday after The Huffington Post Thursday published official internal emails offending Miss America winners' weight, sex lives and intellect.
In statements prior to the leadership resigning, the Miss America Organisation said Mr Haskell had apologised and that the matter was closed. In a Facebook post praising former Miss Americas who had "championed empowerment of women everywhere", the Fayetteville native explained her own decision to sign. The Huffington Post report was based on almost three years of internal emails provided by two sources.
Commenting on the emails, the president of the organization, Josh Randle, apologized to 2013 victor Mallory Hagan, whose sex life and weight he was discussing with other employees and said that the correspondence "does not reflect my [Randle's] values or the values I [Randle] worked to promote at the Miss America Organization". Haskell said he made "a mistake of words".
Randle apologized Saturday to 2013 pageant victor Mallory Hagan, whose weight he and others ridiculed in the emails.
Haskell's resignation is effective immediately, while Randle and Weidner will remain for a few weeks to help with a leadership transition. "If he doesn't leave, he's not putting the organization first", Miss America 2013 victor Mallory Hagan-who Haskell made inappropriate weight and sex-life related comments about-told the New York Daily News.
The emails have cost the pageant its television production partner, and raised questions about the future of the nationally televised broadcast from Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall the week after Labor Day each year. The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals said it was "conducting an immediate review of the situation and will take appropriate actions". Outgoing President Josh Randle apologized to Hagan Saturday, saying his comment does not reflect his values or those of the organization.
