Mega Millions jackpot grows to $306M

The odds of winning the Powerball drawing are only 1 in 292.2 million. But Joshua Haffner of Haffner Law (, who has handled two of the largest lottery fraud cases in U.S. history, warns super large jackpots can bring unanticipated disputes.

In October, Mega Millions changed the numbers that players could choose from, bringing the odds of picking all six numbers to 1 in 302.6 million, from 1 in 258.9 million under the old format.

The jackpot has been rolling since October 13, when the last jackpot of $42 million was won by players in MI and Rhode Island, according to Mega Millions. It also raised the price of a single ticket to $2.
