Flynn says Trump transition team directed him

Flynn is scheduled to plea guilty at a hearing later on Friday, 1 December.

As part of Flynn's plea deal he agreed to "cooperate fully, truthfully, completely, and forthrightly" with the special counsel's office.

Michael Flynn, President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, pleaded guilty Friday to lying to the FBI, becoming the first Trump White House official to face criminal charges and admit guilt so far in the wide-ranging election investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

But, he said, "through my faith in God, I am working to set things right".

The sanctions were ordered in response to "aggressive harassment of United States officials and cyber operations aimed at the United States election", Obama said in a statement on December 29, 2016.

The charge against Flynn is the first in Mueller's probe that has reached someone in the Trump White House and is the latest sign that the special counsel's investigation is intensifying, CNN reported.

In May, Trump fired Comey over "this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation", as Trump described it. Comey's ouster was a stunning event, one that led directly to the appointment of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel for Russiagate.

Jack Posobiec, an aggressively loyal social media Trump sycophant who was kicked out of a pizza restaurant for filming a child's birthday party in an attempt to discover the truth about "Pizzagate", made desperate attempts to spin for President Trump after news broke that General Mike Flynn had testified that officials from the Trump campaign instructed him to talk with Russians. In the first statement Flynn made on December 29, 2016, Flynn denied making a request to a Russian ambassador to "refrain from escalating the situation" after the U.S. imposed sanctions on Russia and Flynn denied recalling that the Russian ambassador then stated they will "moderate" their response due the the request. His bombshell admission that he coordinated his calls with Kislyak with a senior transition official raises the specter that Mueller could bring charges against other current or former administration officials.

Early on in is administration, Trump had taken a particular interest in the status of the Flynn investigation.

In a January 24 interview with investigators, Flynn denied having asked Kislyak to moderate Russia's response to new sanctions and the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats, announced by Obama in retaliation for Moscow's interference in the 2016 election.

Ty Cobb also pointed out that Flynn worked in the White House for only 25 days and was a "former Obama administration official".

The charges against Flynn stem from Mueller's months-long investigation into purported Russian meddling to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, including hacking the computers of the Democratic National Committee, and into any possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. "It was about the 35 guys who were thrown out", Flynn told the Daily Caller at the time.

Since the first allegations of Russian interference past year, Trump has dismissed it as "fake news" and an excuse for Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's stunning loss in the election.

George Papadopoulos? Just a low-level "volunteer" for the campaign who wasn't even worth remembering for both President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

During the Republican National Convention in July 2016, when Trump was officially nominated as the GOP's candidate, Flynn led the entire convention in a repeated chant of "Lock her up!"

Three others have been charged in the Mueller probe.
