Teacher arrested at Indiana school
A teacher was charged Wednesday with drug possession at a northwest IN high School.
WGN reports school officials contacted police around 11:30 a.m. on suspicion that a teacher possessed an illegal narcotic on school property, according to police.
A high school English teacher has been arrested after being filmed snorting what appeared to be cocaine in her classroom.
A video shared on social media shows Cox alone in a classroom, hunched over a book in her lap while students wait outside.
Cox is being held at Lake County Jail, pending charges. School administrators confirmed that police had taken action against a teacher but declined to provide further detail.
The father of the student confirmed to NBC 5 his son was the one who shot the video.
Cox allegedly took the drugs between lessons
In a statement, St. John Chief James Kveton said the students showed "a tremendous amount of fortitude and integrity" by going directly to the principal.
The St. John Police Department brought in a drug-sniffing dog from the Dyer Police Department to aid in the investigation, the Dyer Police Department said.
School officials sent a robocall from the superintendent to parents and said there had been a situation with a teacher, and that "swift and forceful action" had been taken.
Last week, police arrested a high school special education teacher, Monica W. Snee, in Maryland and charged her with possessing controlled substances with the intent to distribute.
Parents were informed of the incident, and the police were quick to praise the students for reporting the alleged crime.
