Trump makes 'Pocahontas' slur at Native American ceremony
"You were here long before any of us were here - although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago".
Mr Trump was referring to Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren, who controversially claimed Cherokee and Delaware Indian heritage in 2012 despite having no documentation proving it.
Eric Trump tweeted on Tuesday what appeared to be a comparison of President Trump calling Sen. John Norwood, general secretary of the Alliance of Colonial Era Tribes, told NBC News that he really wishes the president would "stop using our historical people of significance as a racial slur against one of his opponents". However, Navajo Nation president Russell Begaye later sent out a statement indicating that he found Trump's quip to be insensitive and bigoted while also noting that the code talkers shouldn't be placed in the middle of his political scraps. Scott Brown (R), the Boston Herald found that she was listed as a "minority law teacher" in law school directories from the Association of American Law Schools from 1986 to 1995.
United States President Donald Trump on Monday cracked a Pocahontas joke during an event which was created to honour Native American veterans in the White House's Oval Office.
Trump did actually praise the bravery of the code talkers at the event: "You are special people".
"It's really hard to say that a DNA test would be able to identify how much Native American ancestry a person has", Garrison told the WashingtonPost.
When asked whether it was a racial slur, Sanders said that was "ridiculous".
Trump has often used the moniker to describe Warren, who has spoken about her mother's Native American ancestry.
Warren fired back at Trump's dig on MSNBC, saying, "It is deeply unfortunate that the president of the United States can not make it through a ceremony honoring these heroes without throwing out a racial slur".
Warren's claims of Native-American heritage originated during her Senate campaign.
