Rafael Nadal ensured he will end the 2017 season ranked as the world No1 after a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Chung Hyeon at the Paris Masters.
With his victory of the day Rafael Nadal secures his place as number 1 in the world in 2017... and this for the 4th time!
"For me it has much more value (to) finish the year than being number one in the middle of the season".
"I'm very, very happy for everything", he said on court following the victory over Chung.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a fabulous season, winning two Grand Slam titles along the way, and the French and US Open champion made no mistake in pipping his great rival Roger Federer to the prestigious year-end top spot.
"I'm very very happy for everything". It has been an awesome year.
It marks the conclusion of what has been a remarkable season of renaissance for Nadal, who overcame wrist problems from previous year to win the French Open and US Open - his 15th and 16th grand slam titles.
Franken, Sessions spar about Russia
