National Ayurveda Day: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate All India Institute of Ayurveda in Delhi today

PM Modi to inaugurate first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda

On the occasion of the second National Ayurveda Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) at Delhi's Sarita Vihar on Tuesday, established on the lines of the famous All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

PM Modi said that Ayurveda is not just a medical practice, but encompasses public health and environment health as well.

He added that more than 65 AYUSH hospitals have been developed in the last three years.

In his speech lasting almost 50 minutes, Modi said progress at the cost of national heritage has always pushed countries towards their doom and that Ayurveda, neglected by colonial powers in a bid to run down traditional Indian knowledge, had never been given the attention it deserved even after Independence. He also asked Ayurveda experts to find medicines which, like allopathy, can give immediate relief but without the harmful side-effects associated with allopathic medicine. It advocates preventive healthcare methods of treatment; it is not a system of medicine, but a science of life and longevity and ayurveda will provide affordable health care.

Puerto Rico Mayor Criticizes Trump for Mediocre Disaster Response
Trump also lashed out at comments made by San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz at a press conference on Friday. Cruz responded by saying she would do whatever she had to do to save lives on the island.

The prime minister said Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) ministry was working on other schemes like Ayush villages and wanted corporate houses to promote Ayurveda by spending from their corporate social responsibility fund. He said the time had come for a "health revolution" under the aegis of the traditional medicine system.

The Prime Minister said that when India was not independent, its knowledge and traditions such as yoga and ayurveda were belittled and attempts were even made to reduce the faith that Indians had in them. Ayurveda, he added, did not become a priority until after independence.

He said the Ayush ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development should develop short term courses for students and farmers. "It has started working towards facilitating quality patient care and research, bridging gaps in scientific information about quality, safety and efficacy of Ayurveda products, and developing benchmarks of Ayurvedic education, research and healthcare", Naik said.
