Rep. Devin Nunes Announces Spurious Investigation Into Already-Debunked Anti-Hillary Clinton Conspiracy Theory
The embattled chairman of the House Intelligence Committee announced on Tuesday that he has opened an investigation into a deal struck between the USA and a predominantly Russia-owned uranium company based in Canada, Uranium One, while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.
"We're not going to jump to any conclusions at this time, but one of the things as you know that we're concerned about is whether or not there was an FBI investigation, and if so, why was Congress not informed of this matter", Nunes said. Ousted FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch spoke at length to Congress about that investigation a year ago, and it's the subject of an ongoing review by the Justice Department's inspector general.
The Iowa Republican sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions last Wednesday asking whether the Department of Justice was investigating the fact that former President Bill Clinton was paid for a speech around the time that the USA government approved the Uranium One deal, and that Russians donated millions to the Clinton Foundation years before the uranium deal.
"I got a letter in response from Treasury Secretary [Tim] Geithner, saying this was getting full scrutiny", said King. Nunes, now the subject of an ethics inquiry for his actions, subsequently handed over the reins of the committee's investigation of Russian election meddling to Rep. K. Michael Conaway (R-Tex.), but he has not recused himself from the inquiry.
The probe was announced by the committee's Republican chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, who stepped down from the investigation into Russia's election interference over concerns about his ties to the White House.

Ovechkin, Capitals rally for OT win against Red Wings
The Red Wings' negotiations Athanasiou's agent had been gridlocked for the entirety of the National Hockey League offseason. Athanasiou, who was a restricted free agent this summer, was seeking a two-year deal worth around $2.5 million per season.
Since uranium is considered a strategic asset, with implications for national security, the deal had to be approved by a committee composed of representatives from a number of United States government agencies.
President Trump and other Republicans have accused then-FBI director James Comey of protecting Clinton when he announced last July that he would not pursue further an investigation of Clinton's use of her private server for official business involving classified documents. She said at the very least Sessions should lift an Obama-era gag order on a witness who claims he has information about efforts to bribe the Clintons in regard to the deal.
"This is nothing more than a charade and distraction from the ongoing crisis in the White House".
