New UP BJP chief thanks PM Modi, Amit Shah

However, when Uma Bharti was asked about the development, she refused to comment, as per ANI. She was reportedly upset about it as well.

Bharati, who is the water resources minister, said that only Shah or anyone on his behalf can speak on the issue. "I am ready for any assignment that the party assigns me", he said. Reports said Kalraj Mishra may be made a governor. He also got elected to the 9th, 12th, 15th and 16th Lok Sabha.

NDTV reported that Rudy was asked to resign by the party. With BJP having spread its wings across the country, the number of aspirants from the different regions have gone up and the party, too, has to consider accommodating as many of them as possible to keep the balance. According to The Wire, he was criticised for the poor handling of his ministry. Birender Singh, Steel Minister, is also likely to face the axe.

The others who have resigned are Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and minister of state Sanjeev Balyan. Reports say the final decision lies with Modi and Shah. Kulaste's tenure as a minister was also largely uneventful.

A change is also expected in the Railways Ministry after a series of train accidents recently leaving 20 people dead.

The possibly last major reshuffle before the national election is expected before PM Modi leaves on Sunday for a BRICS summit in China. The reasons for his quitting are not clear yet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Party President Amit Shah is likely to choose the ministers for important posts very carefully with much-calculated result oriented leaders to get higher posts.

Modi is likely to induct leaders from the poll-bound states of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka or relieve the ministers who would be required to focus on elections. The council of ministers comprised 23 of Cabinet rank, 10 ministers of state (independent charge) and remaining 12 ministers of state.

In the first Cabinet reshuffle, the strength of PM Modi's council of ministers went up from 45 to 66.

On Thursday, leaders of Opposition parties, including DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Communist Party of India leader D Raja met President Ram Nath Kovind and submitted a petition seeking a confidence vote. However, the southern party has not confirmed it so far.

In a tweet by the Congress official handle, a poll was launched asking, "Which Prime Minister demonetised notes in 2016, causing a loss of trillions of rupees to the nation?" and giving the options of Morarji Desai, Narendra Modi, Manmohan Singh and AB Vajpayee. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has the additional charge of Defence and Narendra Singh Tomar, who is already burdened with rural development, panchayati raj, drinking water and sanitation departments, was given the additional charge of Urban Development Ministry.

The current strength of the council of ministers, including the prime minister, is 73 and the maximum number of ministers can not go beyond 81. The total number of ministers in the council can not exceed 81.
