Syria: Russian rockets strike ISIS in Deir-Ez-Zor, ministry

"I'll just tell you that the plan is not to go into Deir al-Zor city but there (are) plenty of ISIS fighters and resources and leaders that continue to have holdouts throughout the middle Euphrates River valley", Dillon told reporters in Washington through a video briefing.

Advanced stealth technology is coupled with 18 torpedoes and eight cruise missiles, which Russian Federation claims will allow the craft to strike land, sea and air targets.

In this strike, the missiles were aimed at IS command points, communication hubs and arms dumps southeast of the city of Deir el-Zour, where Syrian troops and allied militias are battling the extremists.

Philippine government forces have been trying to remove IS-linked militants from the city since May.

Last week, the U.S-led coalition issued a statement saying that it will back its partners on the ground to defeat ISIS and "will do our utmost to ensure that (ISIS) terrorists do not move toward the border of our Iraqi partners".
