Star Trek: Discovery: How to watch in the USA and UK

Star Trek: Discovery is here and fans had plenty of feelings about the newest addition to the Star Trek family. All new episodes will be available on demand weekly for CBS All Access subscribers in the US.

While we don't hear Starfleet's famed non-interference policy mentioned in so many words, a precursor for the frequent series plot point is mentioned by Burnham as "General Order 1", i.e. (She is, instead, first officer.) I was excited to see what she did next.

This includes the big screen outings, which found recent success between the latest two TV series in the form of JJ Abrams reboot of the original canon in 2009, 2013 follow-up Star Trek Into Darkness and last year's Star Trek Beyond. This Star Trek series is also making history as the first to run exclusively on a digital platform.

But while Discovery is boldly going where no Trek series has gone before in terms of medium, it's also blazing new paths with its storytelling.

Trump lashes out at McCain on health care vote
The legislation would do away with Obamacare's individual mandate requiring most Americans to buy health insurance or pay a fine. McCain's rejection of the Graham-Cassidy proposal effectively ends the party's chances at repealing Obamacare - for now.

Adidas Overtakes Jordan To Become #2 Sneaker Brand In US: NPD
The Jordan brand has declined as it continues to lose its appeal of exclusivity , an allure that it retained for decades. "I've never seen a brand in the sneaker industry grow this fast", said NPD Group sports industry analyst Matt Powell .

Jennifer Garner gushing about Hamilton while high after dental surgery is priceless
Miranda lovingly shared the video, saying Garner had shared it with him previous year and he couldn't believe she posted it online.

James Frain's take on the classic and beloved Trek character Sarek (he's both Spock's dad and Burnham's foster father) provides some nice connective tissue to the legacy of the series. Good to see him back, even if it is weird that he never told Spock he had a foster sister...

Which brings us to the other reason why it's a big week in the Turner household; at 5pm this afternoon Star Trek: Discovery debuts on Netflix.

We'll share numerous responses we got, but we want to know what you think too. The series begins not with Starfleet, but with the Klingon leader T'Kuvma (Chris Obi), who warns his comrades of the lurking threat of Federation outsiders.

Looking at close-ups of the weapon, it's clear that designers of the phaser's new 3-barrel design wanted to make sure that fans could trace the weapon's lineage as a predecessor to the TOS phaser's classic nib design - an important technological detail for a prequel series set 10 years before the original Enterprise took action. But seven years on, the relationship between the two women has warmed considerably, although Burnham butts heads with the cowardly Saru (why you would appoint someone like that as science officer remains one of the show's many inconsistencies). But since we're supposed to empathize with her as the lead character, the show tries to have it both ways - and when your lead character commits an act of mutiny not long after you're introduced to her, it's hard to muster up any positive feelings toward her. Discovery's opening episode, meanwhile, sees the Shenzou investigate a damaged Federation array only to come across a hidden Klingon vessel - though the end results there were slightly more violent...
