Bayern Munich sack coach Carlo Ancelotti after PSG loss

Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked by Bayern Munich after their 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions league.

"Our team's performances did not meet our expectations from the start of the season".

Ancelotti's backroom staff was also dismissed, while assistant coach and former Bayern defender Willy Sagnol were appointed interim coach "until further notice".

"I'm sorry for Carlo, who will remain a friend, but we had to act for the good of Bayern", said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"I won't answer this question", he said.

During his tenure at Dortmund Tuchel saw Matt Hummels make the switch to Bayern, while in previous years Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze have fled Dortmund for their rivals, but now could Tuchel be lured over to Munich.

"The important thing is that we stick together now as a team".

"There was "extreme dissatisfaction" with Carlo's training methods and intensity which were considered as not appropriate for a top team".

That is according to Goal and Yahoo Sports journalist Mootaz Chehade, who tweeted that the 58-year-old has already been asked by I Rossoneri to head back to his homeland to replace Vicenzo Montella and be reunited with the club he managed for eight seasons before leaving in 2009.

Ancelotti enjoyed success at Bayern in his first season, winning the Bundesliga title.

Heynckes' successor, Pep Guardiola, and Ancelotti suffered by way of comparison.

And the German champions eventually chose to part ways with the former PSG and Real Madrid boss after just one full season in charge. Ancelotti's side was outclassed by eventual champion Madrid last season. The former-Bayern player faces a tough challenge ahead, starting with a league match against Hertha Berlin on Sunday. The game in Paris showed clearly that we had to take action. "It's also the last game before the global break".

His departure from Dortmund came as something of a surprise just three days after guiding them to the DFB-Polkal with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
