Nintendo Handheld Gets Minecraft But Only on New 3DS & 2DS Systems

During Nintendo Direct live stream last night, Nintendo announced that Minecraft is now available for the Nintendo 3DS handheld.

"Swedish game designer Markus "Notch" Persson must never have imagined how his sandbox PC video game "#Minecraft" would explode into a multi platform phenomenon since its first release in 2011.

"Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures", the firm notes.

This marks yet another partnership with Nintendo for Minecraft, which previously launched on Wii U and most recently on Nintendo Switch. The company had a bunch of announcements to make, such as DOOM's upcoming arrival on the Nintendo Switch for the holidays and, of course, Minecraft's arrival on the newest 3DS family product line. You can either play the game using touch controls which is an innovative take on Minecraft world while the traditional button and analog controls can be used for a more laid back experience. The New 3DS Edition includes the various modes from the other versions as well as a few skin packs.

The game is also set to have local multiplayer capabilities, but that it would have to be implemented in a future patch according to the official "Minecraft" website.
