Google announced it will challenge the fine levied by the EU in June following a court decision on a similar case with Intel

Google announced it will challenge the fine levied by the EU in June following a court decision on a similar case with Intel

For its part, Google was found guilty of misusing its search engine to promote another service, "Google Shopping", previously known as Google Product Search and Froogle, causing traffic drops of up to 90 percent for its competitors.

In June, the Silicon Valley giant was found to have given its own online shopping service an illegal advantage in internet search results across 13 countries within the European Economic Area - including the UK.

When reached by TechCrunch for comment a Google's spokesman declined to confirm whether it would be complying with the Commission's antitrust order while it pursues a legal challenge - or to answer any questions.

The company has submitted plans on how it plans to stop favouring its shopping service and these are now being reviewed by Brussels.

(GOOGL, GOOG), on Monday launched an appeal against the European Union's record anti-trust fine of 2.4 billion euro or $2.9 billion.

Union Ministers including MoMSME Kalraj Mishra resign ahead of Cabinet reshuffle
A change is also expected in the Railways Ministry after a series of train accidents recently leaving 20 people dead. The others who have resigned are Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and minister of state Sanjeev Balyan.

The EU also ordered Google to change its search practices in order to give rival services equal consideration.

A court battle between Brussels and Google could take years to resolve and adds to an increasingly bitter row between the USA giant and European countries.

It's that decision which Alphabet/Google will be hoping to overturn, buoyed by the fact that earlier this month Europe's top court, the ECJ, ruled that a lower court should review an earlier failed antitrust appeal by Intel, pertaining to a 2009 €1.06BN EC ruling.
