Calgary's McMahon Stadium is one of nine facilities across the country up for consideration to potentially host FIFA World Cup matches in 2026, if a joint bid between Canada, the United States and Mexico to host the tournament is successful.

Nearly every major USA city was included on Tuesday's preliminary list.

The bid committee says it will review interest and select a short list of possible host cities by, according to a news release. Out of those 80 matches, 60 of them will be in the United States.

Seven Canadian cities are included on the United Bid committee's list of 44 potential host cities.

The US-Mexico-Canada World Cup bid will submit between 20-25 venues in its final bid to Federation Internationale de Football Association, with 12 locations likely to be chosen as host cities. Other venues include the new Los Angeles Stadium, and the 105,000-capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Aside from the logistical challenges, a big list of stadiums does not increase revenue but does raise costs.
