46 percent of voters said more acceptance of transgender people would be "a good thing for the country", with only 14 percent saying it would be "bad" and 39 percent saying it would not make much difference. Trump's highest Gallup approval rating was 46 percent on January 25.

Voting opinions on Trump's qualities like honesty, leadership and intelligence also hit new lows.

Sixty percent of Republicans said they disapprove, while only 32 percent of Republicans said they approve.

Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said that "profound embarrassment" over his performance in office and "deepening concern" over his level-headedness were his two major concerns from the poll findings.

Americans are increasingly dissatisfied with President Trump's on-the-job performance, according to new polls out this week. In late June, 84% of Republicans approved of Trump's performance - now, 76% of Republicans say the same.

The Quinnipiac University poll of 1,125 voters was conducted July 27-August 1. A majority of all respondents, 59 percent, disapproved of the way Democrats in Congress are handling the issue. It found that 68 percent believe transgenders should be able to serve in the military while 27 percent think they should be banned from doing so.

The poll also reflected the deep partisan divide over the Russian Federation investigation that has consumed much of Trump's presidency. The telephone poll surveyed 1,125 voters, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. Read the full results here.
