TDP scores a big victory in Nandyal

Telugu Desam Party has secured 97,106 votes; YSR Congress 69,710 votes while Congress had to settle with 1,153. This could mean that YSRCP candidate Silpa Chandra Mohan Reddy will be declared as the victor. The votes were counted on Monday. In anticipation of the general elections in 2019, both the TDP and the YSRCP tried every means to gain the trust of people of the state.

There were reports that the BJP was keenly watching the Nandyal by-elections and since, there were bright chances for the YSR Congress party to win the seat, there would realignment of political forces after the polls.

While the TDP went with Brahmanand, who happens to be Nagi Reddy's nephew, the YSR Congress threw its lot behind Mohan Reddy - who defected from the ruling party's ranks after being denied a ticket at the eleventh hour.

"This is a clear vote for Nara Chandrababu Naidu's development agenda and a big no for Jagan mark of politics", said K Achennaidu, a minister in Naidu's cabinet in Amaravati.

When the final verdict was out, celebrations in the TDP camp hit the roof, In Nandyal and Allagadda, where the Bhuma family has much influence, their followers and TDP cadres came out on the streets to celebrate.
