Kenya's Raila Odinga calls strike as he mulls options

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been declared victor of Kenya's presidential election.

On Friday, Kenyatta was declared the victor of Tuesday's election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), winning his second term with 54.3 per cent of the vote.

Commonwealth observer mission head and Ghana's ex-President John Mahama said there was no reason to doubt the commission's ability to deliver a "credible election". Raila Odinga and NASA coalition have however disputed the results terming the electoral process a charade.

Kenyatta said he wanted to work with the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA).

According to the acting president, President Kenyatta's re-election is a testimony to his leadership style and the giant strides he has taken in developing the east-African country in the last few years.

She's among up to twelve people reportedly shot dead during demonstrations in the western city of Kisumu and slums around Nairobi. They demanded that Odinga be declared president.

Police on Sunday denied allegations officers killed 24 people in post-election violence as alleged by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

Hundreds of riot police patrolled Nairobi's central business district before the results were announced, and opposition supporters burned tires and blocked roads in several areas. Odinga also lost the 2007 election, which was followed by violence fueled by ethnic tensions, leaving more than 1,200 people dead.

Senior opposition official James Orengo said they would not go to court to achieve this.
