Indian, Chinese troops briefly skirmish at Ladakh's Pangong Lake

The standoff has been ongoing for more than 50 days, after Indian troops stopped the Chinese Army from illegally constructing a road in the disputed area.

Indian and Chinese soldiers have been engaged in a standoff in Doklam for over a months now.

A source in New Delhi told Reuters, Chinese soldiers carried iron rods and stones. Personnel from both sides received minor injuries and the situation was brought under control after the customary banner drill under which both sides hold banners before stepping back to their respective positions.

Indian and Chinese forces briefly skirmished on the north bank of Pangong Lake in Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, sources said.

"I have no knowledge of the details you mentioned, but what I can tell you is that Chinese border troops have always been committed to maintaining the peace and tranquility of the China-India border areas", Hua told reporters at a regularly scheduled news conference.

China wants the Indian Army to withdraw from Doklam, and India asked China to stop building the road.

Two attempts were made by Chinese troops to intrude into Indian territory, both of which were thwarted by Indian soldiers, a PTI report said.

China's defence and foreign ministries did not immediately respond to request for comment.
