Despite the donation, which stems from a reduction in his stake in Microsoft by 64 million shares, Gates remains the world's richest person.

According to an SEC filing released Monday, Gates gifted $4.6 billion worth of stock, his largest donation to charity since 2000.

Bill Gates, the billionaire co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), recently made his largest charitable donation in 17 years.

That makes the June donation his biggest since 2000, as well as the biggest share donation in 2017 among very rich and philanthropic men. Image via YouTube.comBill Gates is giving $4.6 billion to charity - probably his own foundation.
