Neymar stars as PSG beat Toulouse

Neymar is having the right start…will he even get better?

Barcelona are suing former player Neymar for 8.5m euros (£7.8m) over his world record move to Paris St-Germain.

Shortly after Neymar completed his move to PSG, Barca announced that the player would not receive a €26m loyalty bonus after they accused him of breaching his contract.

The Spanish club are demanding that Neymar return an unspecified bonus payment for signing an improved Barca contract a year ago, plus €8.5m in damages and 10 per cent interest on the total.

The Catalans are asking for an additional 10 per cent payment due to a delay in demands being met, after presenting the Brazilian striker with them on August 11. "The club also claims that the Paris Saint-Germain subsidiarity assumes payment of these amounts in case the player cannot take over".

Barcelona and Neymar have been involved in a off-the-field battle since the player joined PSG on 3 August.

Barca attempted to dig in their heels to prevent one of their star men from departing, while La Liga chief Javier Tebas also stepped in at the time, but they proved powerless as Neymar became the world's most expensive player.

Barcelona, Neymar and his father and agent, Neymar Sr, are embroiled in a dispute over bonuses included in the five-year contract renewal he signed in 2016.

"When I arrived, everything started well but then.at Barcelona, there are directors that shouldn't be there".

"I spent four handsome years there and parted happy", said the 25-year-old.

Neymar had originally signed a contract extension this summer through 2021. "I'm very sad with them", Neymar said. For me. Well, actually I have something to say: That I am disappointed with them. "Barcelona deserves more and everyone knows it". I hope things get better for Barca and that they go back to being a team that can compete'.
