Power crashes out in Toronto Indy

A caution came out on the first lap when defending-champion Will Power was hit on the right side of his auto in Turn 3 by overall leader Scott Dixon.

This weekend, the Verizon IndyCar Series heads to Toronto to race in the 12th of 17 events (Honda Indy Toronto, Sunday, 3 p.m. ET, CNBC).

He quit after the lap. Helio Castroneves, who ended a three-year win drought with a victory at last weekend's Iowa Corn 300, was fastest after the first practice while Simon Pagenaud was first after the second practice. Then (Will) Power and I got together and ended up cutting down our tire and doing some damage to the suspension on the auto.

"It was a really good lap, one of the best I've ever put together", Pagenaud said. He followed up his Indianapolis 500 victory with an eighth-place run in the first dual in Detroit before winning the pole for the second race and finishing fourth. The second caution flag of the race came out on lap 23 when Tony Kanaan got into the turn 1 tire barrier.

Dixon was forced to make up for lost time after hitting Australia's Will Power on the third corner of the opening lap and pitting with a puncture.

Josef Newgarden seized the lead - and a win - thanks to fortunate pit stop timing at the Honda Indy Toronto. He has one win to his credit with three runner-up finishes.

States Refuse to Turn Over Voter Data to White House Commission
Frosh also said he finds the request repugnant and it is an effort to indulge Trump's "fantasy" that he won the popular vote. Trump over the weekend asked in a tweet what they had to hide.

Team Penske dominated each Toronto practice session, so the rest of the Verizon IndyCar series competitors were jockeying for the best of the rest of the top 10.

"I thought we had a very fast vehicle, we got a pretty good start, and stayed out of the mayhem", Newgarden said. "I hadn't realized he was ahead of us at the time, so I thought we were out and luckily we got in".

"Track position was a big thing today", Newgarden said. "Knew it was going to be a struggle to get much higher than sixth just based on what we've seen out of these guys in practice". I think if we're the most consistent, we absolutely can win the championship.

It's been a big turnaround for Hinchcliffe in his hometown race after struggling prior to a year ago. Dixon has finished in the top 5 of seven races this year and finished in the top 10 in all but one race. Even so, there's been no rhyme or reason to who's won at the earlier portion of those tracks this year. This time, the three race leaders had not pitted when the yellow came. "If it starts raining when I'm on the wrong end of the track then that wouldn't be very good". He finished fifth at the season-opener in St. Pete, and he was robbed of a good finish at Long Beach when his vehicle lost power.

Gutiérrez is filling in for the injured Sébastien Bourdais as he continues to recover from multiple fractures of the pelvis and right hip sustained in a crash during Indianapolis 500 qualifications on May 20.

The Frenchman, the victor this year on the oval in Phoenix, gave Team Penske its eighth pole in 11 races this season.
