Insurance firm: 2 employees hurt in Swiss attack

Swiss police have issued an global arrest warrant after a man went on the rampage with a chainsaw in the northern border town of Schaffhausen, BBC reported on Tuesday (July 25).

The authorities said that they were still investigating the motivation for the attack, but that Mr. Wrousis appeared to have been targeting employees of CSS Insurance who were working in the company's office in Schaffhausen.

The assailant entered an office building in the northern town of Schaffhausen shortly after 10.30 am (0830 GMT), police said in a statement cited by multiple local media outlets.

Police stressed on Monday that the attack was not terror-related.

Police have said they believe Wrousis specifically targeted CSS, and was a customer of the company.

Prosecutor Peter Sticher said Wrousis has two previous convictions for offenses against weapons laws, one from 2014 and 2016.

Authorities issued an global arrest warrant for the suspect as the police carried out the search.

He didn't elaborate or say where they were committed, but said Wrousis has no previous record in the small northern canton (state) of Schaffhausen, near the German border.

Police described Wrousis as a 6-foot-2 loner with an unkempt appearance who mainly lives in forests but who visits populated areas.

However, police did say the life of the man most seriously injured is no longer threatened.

On Monday afternoon, police found the Volkswagen minivan with registration plates from Graubuenden that the suspect was believed to be driving.

A local shop owner told newspaper Blick that a man was walking the streets with a chainsaw, causing panic among pedestrians in the center of town.

Police had described Wrousis as potentially risky and warned he might be armed. Schaffhausen, with a population of 36,000, is about 30 miles from Zurich.

Karrer described him as an odd character who "told my dog he had a great haircut".
