In a closed-door meeting held in the Parliament, 18 opposition parties unanimously made a decision to appeal to Gopal Krishna Gandhi to contest the vice presidential elections. Originally a top contender for the country's top constitutional post, the President of India, Gandhi emerged as the consensus candidate for the post of VP during Tuesday's opposition parties' meeting in Parliament. "If BJP would have opted for an intellectual candidate, they would have gone with someone like Gopalkrishna Gandhi", Sen added.
Around 18 non-NDA parties are expected to attend Tuesday's meeting convened by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the Parliament Library.
