In the recruiting center for U.S. explosion

A 28-year-old man facing federal charges in a pipe bomb explosion outside an Air Force recruiting center in Oklahoma had been enlisted in that branch of the military and was decorated for his service.

"We can confirm that we have taken into custody a person of interest in regard to the bombing at the USAF Recruiting Center last night", the FBI's field office tweeted.

The FBI said earlier Tuesday the explosion is not now being considered an act of terrorism.

There was no one in the building at the time and no one was injured.

Federal authorities are searching for surveillance video of a commercial area that houses an Oklahoma Air Force recruiting center where an explosive device was set off.

A witness told KJRH-TV that a person on a red motorcycle, described as a "crotch rocket" threw a backpack at the Air Force recruiting center and then drove off.

The Tulsa World reports that a pipe bomb caused the explosion. The bomb also pierced the canopy over the office. "But it's quite ironic that that happened".

The blast took place around 10.30pm local time (4.30pm GMT) in Bixby, which lies around 15 miles to the south of Tulsa. The FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the incident shortly after.

"It's a little bit comforting that they didn't want to kill anybody", FBI Special Agent Jessi Rice said at a press conference.

Investigators have reportedly indicated such a designation can not occur until a suspect or a motive becomes known.

"It's a two-pronged investigation", she said.
