This weekend would have marked Princess Diana's 56th birthday, with the mother to Princes William and Harry dying tragically at just 36-years-old.

Beyond that, not much is known from what was clearly a private, meaningful ceremony.

William was just 15-years-old and Harry was 12 when Diana was killed in a Paris vehicle crash in 1997. Harry recently spoke about a particular memory of her funeral that he feels strongly was wrong.

Other members of Diana's family in attendance included Prince Harry, Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, and her sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Baroness Fellowes.

To mark the anniversary, the BBC will broadcast a special documentary about what happened the week after her fatal accident.

He said earlier this month: "My mother had just died, and I had to walk a long way behind her coffin, surrounded by thousands of people watching me while millions more did on television". His sons, William and Harry, are as well rendered in Northamptonshire to collect on his grave, situated on the wooded island in the area of Althorp House.

"One of the reasons I want to talk now is because I think after 20 years someone shifts from being a contemporary person to one of history, " Earl Spencer said.

William and Harry, who were 15 and 12 years old when their mother died, are marking the anniversary by commissioning a statue of Diana that will stand in the public gardens of Kensington Palace in London.

They said in a statement that their mother touched so many lives. "We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy".

A remarkable private collection of unseen candid photographs of Princess Diana and the Royals during a shooting party has been unearthed.

"The Princess is remembered by everyone she met for her warmth and genuine interest in their situation and difficulties", the fund's website says, "She threw herself into her charity work in a very personal way, spending countless hours listening to the individual stories and problems of the people she visited".
