Tony Hall Director General of the BBC'We always try to pay people at a discount to the market
Responding to the release of his £1.75 million plus pay packet, Lineker tweeted: "This whole BBC salary exposure business is an absolute outrage..."
With the incomes coming out of the licence fees paid by the public, the Government argued that the people have the right to know how much the corporation is paying its stars, forcing the BBC to release a list of the presenters, actors and entertainers who earn more than £150,000 a year.
The BBC published the salaries of its 10 highest-earning radio and TV personalities Wednesday, and Evans, who hosts "The Chris Evans Breakfast Show" on BBC Radio 2, topped the list by a fairly large margin.
The data appears to show a massive gulf between pay rates for male and female stars that's going to be extremely hard to put a positive spin on, no matter how many of them magically regenerate into women. Match of the Day'sGary Lineker is the second highest earner, making £1.75-1.79m.
Lawyers have warned that the BBC could be open to discrimination lawsuits brought by its female employees.
He was followed by Gary Lineker, Graham Norton and Jeremy Vine - in a list that revealed a gender pay gap and a lack of diversity that BBC Director General Tony Hallsaid must be addressed. They suggest that as long as we have a BAME person on the TV screen, giving the appearance of diversity, then it is absolutely OK. "That's why we always try to pay people at a discount to the market".
'At the moment, of the talent earning over £150,000, two thirds are men and one third are women, ' Hall said.
22 states abolish check posts post GST roll out
He also asked departments to be ready to deal with queries of their respective stakeholders concerning GST. With the roll-out of the GST , 22 States in India have abolished their check posts.
Seven other men on the list are older than Stuart - and five of them are more than 70 years old.
Speaking to BBCs Radio 4 Today show, he said that the broadcaster needed to go "further and faster" to tackle these issues.
Hall said the BBC hopes to split all leading presenting and acting roles equally between men and women by 2020.
Chris Evans has been revealed as the best paid star at the BBC, while Claudia Winkleman is the highest paid female star at the corporation after pay details were revealed for the first time. "This is already having an impact - of the talent on the list that we have hired or promoted in the last four years, 60 percent are women".
He admitted that he had taken "a couple of sizeable pay cuts" recently and said he approved personally of the pay figures being made public.
Questioned by Mishal Husain on Radio 4's Today programme, director general Lord Hall said that, compared with an 18% gap in pay between genders across the United Kingdom, the BBC pay gap across the corporation was 10%, which will be audited in the autumn. "It's going to change the market for talent in this country".
The journalist told Harry Jones from Glamorgan: "I just feel very lucky every day", before Mr Jones asked: "Do you think you're overpaid?" BBC Radio 2's Ken Bruce, who makes at least 250,000 pounds, was accosted on the street.
