N. Korea threat increasing, Trump tells China's Xi
The Trump Administration is losing patience with China's failure to stop North Korea's nuclear program, and two signals last week were new USA sanctions on Chinese aiding the North and a $1.4 billion arms sale to Taiwan.
"Trump reiterated his determination to seek more balanced trade relations with America s trading partners".
The upcoming G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, which covers a wide range of topics, is very important, said Trump, adding that he is looking forward to holding in-depth discussions with President Xi and other state leaders on major issues of common concern.
Xi said he hoped the USA president will "properly handle" Taiwan issues in accordance with the "One China" principle. The sanctions also were slapped on a Chinese company and two Chinese citizens.
Then, on Sunday, the USS Stethem, an American guided-missile destroyer, sailed within 12 nautical miles of Triton Island, a small isle in the Paracel Islands chain claimed and controlled by China, a US defense official said. The Chinese government, however, is reluctant to impose further sanctions against North Korea that could provoke the collapse of the regime and provide an opening for the U.S. and its allies to exploit.
According to Chinese state media, it was made clear to Trump that although some progress had been made on US-China relations, there was still tension between the two superpowers, owing to "negative factors".
Trump said the relationship has broad prospects, with both countries having a wide spectrum of common interests. For almost four decades, the U.S. has recognised Beijing as the sole legitimate government of all China, including Taiwan.
"Meanwhile, bilateral relations have also been affected by some negative factors, for which the China side has expressed its position to the U.S. side".

Two others who also lost their life in the mishap are Jahangir Ahmad Khanday, also a guide, and Farooq Ahmad Chopan . The Chief Minister expressed her grief and shock over the tragic accident and ordered a thorough investigation.
The ministry said Trump told Xi the US government would continue to follow a "one China" policy, under which Washington acknowledges the Chinese position that there is only one China and Taiwan is part of it, and that this position had not changed. "Things such as strengthening pressure on North Korea or urging China to fulfill even more of a role". "The Chinese leadership will wonder if the Trump administration will sanction a medium-sized Chinese bank next", he said".
"The two leaders exchanged views on the growing threat from North Korea, including their unity with respect to increasing pressure on the regime to change its risky path", the White House readout said.
Relations between the two nations had been warmer since Trump and Xi met in April, but Washington has taken a series of actions that have infuriated Beijing in recent days. The Pentagon called it a "Freedom of Navigation" operation, but China said it is illegal and threatens peace and stability in the region.
Trump issued a statement on Warmbier's death: "There is nothing more tragic for a parent than to lose a child in the prime of life". The island is administered by China since several decades.
The move prompted China to deploy military vessels and fighter jets, foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said in a statement late Sunday, calling the USA operation a "serious political and military provocation".
US, South Korean and Japanese officials say it flew for about 40 minutes and reached an altitude of 2,500 kilometres, which would be longer and higher than any similar North Korean test previously reported.
China is suspected by Washington of seeking to establish by force its demands by building military facilities in the archipelagos of Paracels and Spratleys.
