At the peak, Erendira was 300 feet above the ground, breaking a previous record held by her husband in a stunt unrelated to his 2012 wire walk.

Nik Wallenda said the reason Erendira's stunt was performed at 8:30 a.m. was to maximize exposure for viewers and capitalize on a full day of media coverage to promote the Niagara region.

In a further theft of Nik Wallenda's thunder, Erendira smashed her husband's record on the fifth anniversary of his famous tightrope walk across Niagara Falls.

Erendira's stunt was unanimously approved by the Niagara County Legislature earlier this year, and $35,000 was set aside for the event.

Erendira described the experience as "beautiful and amazing" but said she was caught off guard by the strong winds.

I don't know about you, but there is no amount of money I'd do that for.

Big ideas for Niagara Falls are as common as water falling over them, and many concepts over the years have evaporated like the mist above the Falls. Erendira plans to break the height record by performing 300 to 350 feet in the air.

In the interim, he said, he hoped more people would come visit the area as a result of the publicity afforded his wife's stunt. However, the troupe may be most recognized for their fatal 1940s' seven-person chair pyramid act that killed two members and left a third paralyzed. Barth has worked with the Wallendas for over a decade, he said, and on movies and television shows. She set a world record in 2016 by completing 40 revolutions in her hoop in 50 seconds beneath a helicopter above the Atlantic City shore.
