Virginians to determine ballot for governor, among other races

Polls have closed in Virginia's closely watched primary contests for governor that could be an early referendum on President Donald Trump.

The highest profile contest is on the Democratic side, where Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is in a close race with former congressman Tom Perriello.

Frank Wagner is a longtime legislator from Virginia Beach whose central argument is that he knows how the state government runs better than his opponents and has practical solutions to fix the state's biggest problems. Bryce Reeves (Spotsylvania) and Jill Vogel (Fauquier) and Del.

Three Republicans and two Democrats want to be governor. The former Republican National Committee Chairman is considered the frontrunner in the race against Corey Stewart, who chaired Trump's campaign in Virginia and is parroting many of Trump's stances on the stump in his own bid for office.

McAuliffe, who, like U.S. Sens. He energized many new-to-politics voters who oppose Trump and promised to support a grab-bag of progressive policies, like raising taxes on the wealthy, using public funds for political campaigns or mandating union membership. Statewide, votes will be cast for Virginia governor, lieutenant governor and state delegates. And you do not get to vote in both of them.

"[Government] is focused on the wrong thing", another voter said. Democrats can only hope to ward off an outcome that they hate.

Virginia does not require voters to register by party affiliation, but voters will have to choose one party's ballot at the poll.

She said Northam has "proven he can work across the aisle". "I'm no Bobby Kennedy, but it's the moment", says Perriello.

Existing climate efforts expected to keep USA goals on track
The pair met soon after the top USA diplomat in China resigned, allegedly in protest of Trump's Paris decision. China and the Obama administration negotiated the deal, and China has vowed to stay in it.

"I think that people are, maybe fingers crossed, recognizing the importance of primaries, that we need to be getting involved at this level", Peters said.

Outspent on the airwaves in the final days of Virginia's gubernatorial primary, Democrat Tom Perriello scrounged for votes in the dead of night Saturday at a truck stop and Waffle House in rural parts of the state. A Perriello triumph, however, could signal the evolution of the party and the potency of a national message-and that backers of both Sanders and Clinton have found at least one candidate to agree on.

Stewart could benefit from a low Republican turnout, according to the report.

While Perriello may have embraced the party's progressive, populist mantle more than Northam, there are few gaps between the two when it comes to policy.

Seized the opportunity by ditching his moderate record in Congress, when he voted against federal funding for abortions and when he received money and support from the NRA.

A win for Perriello could have national consequences.

A victory for Northam would be an affirmation of the power of Democratic establishment that's backed him, including Sens. And he believed months of meeting voters around the state would pay dividends Tuesday, even though Northam has financial and endorsement advantages.

On the Democratic side, Northam has kept rallying the party faithful, while Perriello has tried to tap into anti-Trump energy and economic populism to create a surge of new primary voters. Gillespie and Stewart say they want to cut the state's income tax rates. Stewart's campaign has mostly been composed of attacks on undocumented workers, defense of Confederate monuments, and oaths of fealty to the president.

Wagner, meanwhile, touted his experience as a veteran lawmaker who can fix the state's congested highways. "I trust his dedication to all Virginians", Lee said of Northam.
