Trump May Be Laying Groundwork to Fire Mueller — WashPost

Examining such possible charges will allow investigators to interview key administration figures including Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein and possibly Trump himself, said the source familiar with the Mueller investigation.

He also tweeted: "Despite the phony Witch Hunt going on in America, the economic & jobs numbers are great. My decision", Trump told Holt, a day after the White House had said the president fired Comey based on a recommendation from Rosenstein.

Mr Rosenstein issued an unusual statement on Thursday night complaining about leaks in the case.

Mueller's move came after Comey said in his June 8 testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee that he intentionally handed over his memos, detailing each conversation he had with the president, over to Mueller.

Friday's tweets are the latest in a week of angry social media responses by the president after a report by The Washington Post, NBC News and others that Mueller was looking into whether Trump obstructed justice. "Witch Hunt", the President wrote in his tweet.

"That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office".

There has been growing concern among Trump and his allies that Mueller's past professional relationship with Comey is getting in the way of his investigation into Russia's interference of 2016 presidential election.

It was unclear what report or reports Rosenstein was referencing.

In the statement Thursday evening, Rosenstein warned that USA citizens should be skeptical about anonymous allegations.

DUP agrees to principles of 'confidence and supply' deal with Tories
That means the DUP will back the government on key votes, but it's not a coalition government or a broader pact. She had brought the election forward by three years in the hope of winning a larger Commons majority.

But a department official said no-one asked for the statement and Mr Rosenstein acted on his own.

Trump has been told repeatedly not to post such missives on Twitter but has decided he is in for a political fight, according to one outside adviser briefed on the strategy.

The investigation appears to be reaching a broadening circle of current and former officials.

"She's a horse of a different color from career prosecutors such as Rosenstein, Comey and Mueller", Feldman writes. A day later, Rosenstein appointed Mueller, who was at the helm of the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the September 11 attacks, as special counsel.

Mr Trump's tweets came after the top lawyer for his transition team warned the organisation's officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the laywer's internal order sent Thursday.

USA intelligence agencies concluded in January that Russian Federation interfered in the presidential race to try to help Mr Trump win, in part by hacking and releasing emails damaging to his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton. Mr Comey testified that Mr Trump directed him in February to drop an FBI investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn relating to the Russian Federation matter.

What do you think of the current turn of events in the White House?

Trump, however, added that the man conducting the probe is the same individual who advised him to fire Comey.
