The pair were caught after they attempted to steal a vehicle from a home in the area.
The unnamed homeowner and a neighbor then held the two at gunpoint until the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department was called.
Protocol is to have two armed corrections officers on the bus, but the officers don't wear bullet-proof vests during transfers, Dozier said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal had tweeted earlier that the two men were in custody. The GBI's statement Friday says "The reward will be dispersed at the appropriate time", after a law enforcement review of the circumstances of their capture. But he also turned his thoughts to the families of Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue, who were gunned down Tuesday morning.
"We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service", Deal said. Before their arrest, they had said that at least one of them shot and killed the officers. The inmates allegedly crashed the newly stolen vehicle near mile marker 91 and fled on foot. They disarmed one of the officers and fatally shot both.
Donnie Rowe, 43, and Ricky DuBose, 24, both waived their right to extradition, meaning they are agreeing to go back to Georgia without a hearing in Tennessee.
TBI Director Mark Gwyn said it was the bravery and cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies that led to the capture of the escapees and that some people in Georgia were probably breathing a sigh of relief tonight. Authorities believe they tied up a couple in Shelbyville earlier in the day and stole a Jeep and guns.
They then ran off on foot but were stopped at a home on Pruitt Road in Christiana, where they gave themselves up to police. Somewhere near there, the escapees stole another vehicle, which they abandoned about 15 miles north in Bedford County, Tenn., near Shelbyville, he said.
Investigators said the men surrendered peacefully when they were taken into custody.

The Penguins' 4-1 victory over the Nashville Predators in Game 2 on Wednesday night at PPG Paints Arena is a flawless example. They went 9 minutes and 50 seconds without a shot, reminiscent of the second period of Game 1when they had no shots at all.
Two Georgia fugitives Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose arrested in Christiana, Tenn., June 15, 2017. In the process, they killed two correctional officers, sparking the manhunt.
The deceased officers were identified as Sgt. Curtis Billue and Sgt. Christopher Monica.
The fugitives tied them up, and when the man tried to break free, they tied him up tighter, putting socks on his hands so he couldn't loosen his bonds, Swing said. Due to their tireless efforts, the public is safe.
The capture put an end to a multistate manhunt that lasted almost 60 hours after the inmatesescaped Tuesday morning in central Georgia.
Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said the fugitives took some food and likely some clothes, since they left their prison uniforms behind. The two were considered to be friends in prison and shared a cell together.
That's how an intense manhunt that spanned three days, and stretched across the nation, ended. David LeValley, agent in charge of the FBI's Atlanta office, told reporters that "we are expanding, not shrinking, our effort to find these individuals".
The saga began with what could have been a scene out of a movie: 33 inmates were riding on a Georgia corrections bus as they were being driven to another prison.
At about 5:30 p.m., the accused killers left in the couple's Jeep Cherokee and threatened they would be back if the couple didn't make up a story about what happened.
