SNES Classic is real: Star Fox 2 playable for first time

Nintendo will be releasing a Super Famicom version of the Classic Edition for the Japanese market for ¥7,980 (~S$99). However, one of the biggest areas of criticism about the device was the length of its controller cords.

Much like the mini NES, we've got a miniature console in the same style as the original machine, as well as two SNES controllers. Thankfully, the SNES Classic is compatible with both the classic controller and the classic controller pro. If the SNES Classic is anything like it's predecessor, the NES Classic, fans should expect it to fly off the shelves very quickly regardless of the extra units!

Following the success of the NES Mini a year ago, Nintendo is launching the SNES Mini on September 29 at a suggested retail price of $79.99.

We heard murmurings of a mini SNES console earlier this year, following the success of the mini NES. That console was also preloaded with games that could be played in HD, and turned out to be a pretty nifty little box. Some of the fan favorites are The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Yoshi Island, Final Fantasy III, Earthbound, and more. One game that never saw the light of day however, was Star Fox 2, with its release being cancelled despite the title being completed. According to Nintendo, players will need to complete the first level of Star Fox in order to unlock the sequel.

Nintendo said in a statement it would produce "significantly more units" of the SNES Classic than it did of the NES, but that it was only planning to ship those units until the end of calendar year 2017.

At launch there will be two different versions of the console.

Will this be enough to make up for the limited amount of NES Classics that people were trying to get for the longest time?

Even if you are playing Kirby's Dream Course, you'll at least be able to control the game from a reasonable distance this time around. "At this time, we have nothing to announce regarding any possible shipments beyond this year".
