Secret Service says it doesn't have any Trump tapes

The Secret Service said Monday that it has no audio or transcripts of any recordings made within President Trump's White House, but did not categorically say that recordings of conversations between Trump and fired FBI Director James Comey do not exist.

They revealed this only after the Wall Street Journal submitted the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the Secret Service on May 15th.

The agency, which handled White House recording systems for former presidents like Richard Nixon, said it has no recordings or transcripts of recordings from within the Trump White House.

The White House has continued to deflect on whether or not there are tapes of Trump's conversations with Comey.

On Monday, White House spokesman Sean Spicer reiterated Trump's comments.

When one reporter asked Spicer why Trump would hesitate to release the recordings if they were concrete evidence that Comey had lied to the Senate, Spicer simply said Trump would release or not release the tapes at a time that he felt was appropriate. Trump strangely continued, "Oh, you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don't worry".

In public testimony before Congress last week, Comey expressed his hope that the tapes did exist.

'I've seen the tweet about the tapes, ' Comey said.

Sessions will testify in open session Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence committee, where he'll face questions over his role in the controversy around possible ties between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian Federation. "It appears, from a review of Secret Service's main indices, that there are no records pertaining to your request that are referenced in these indices". He told reporters last week that he would discuss the possibility "in the very near future".

'Sure, I'll try to look under the couches, ' she answered when asked to clear the question up.

After asking for a timeline on their release, Spicer said they would come out "when the president's ready to release it".
