Rogue Shark Sends Holidaymakers in Mallorca Into Frenzy (VIDEOS, PHOTOS)

The 8-foot blue shark was first seen around Illetas beach on Saturday and was next spotted prowling the shorelines of Cala Major and Can Pastilla beaches, according to The Telegraph and Russia Today.

Wildlife experts have been forced to put down a blue shark after it sparked panic on a beach on the Spanish island of Majorca.

Videos have emerged of holidaymakers desperately running from the ocean after the shark was discovered flopping in the water.

An aquarium employee said: "After a close examination by experts, a hook was found inside its mouth which had caused it irreversible damage".

The beach was quickly evacuated, and the shark was later brought to shore by three lifeguards before putting it down.

A 2009 visit by former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, secured the freedom of American journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling. In the past, North Korea has held out until senior US officials or statesmen came to personally bail out detainees.

The shark was caught by lifeguards and aquarium workers and pulled ashore as beachgoers watched in amazement.

A spokesman for Calvia Council, which covers Illetas, said the shark appeared to be the same one spotted in Cala Major and Can Pastilla. "Afterwards, it is euthanized to minimize suffering, stress and to provide it with a dignified death".

Officials were not sure if the head injury on the shark happened before or after it was seen near the beach.

The fish is thought to have moved close to the shore after becoming disorientated before vanishing after swimming back out to sea. A blue shark was said to have attacked a swimmer near a popular holiday beach in Ibiza in May. The Spanish man suffered a two-inch wound from what was believed to be a blue shark, which are one of the most common shark species around the Mediterranean.
